This is the third time I’ve had the pleasure of working with the Shea family. Seems like just yesterday that I shot Katy’s maternity session which was shot in studio at Redondo Beach here’s a link. Then it was Ryan’s sister wedding in Palos Verdes here’s a link. Fast forward to the present day and now I’m photographing their family portrait… how time flies. So this was my first on location maternity shoot. The first few were all shot in-studio but for Julie’s shoot I though it would be a nice change of pace to have our shoot at one of my favorite parks. I had the pleasure of working with Tavin and his lovely mom recently. Initially I was told that Tavin was a bit camera shy and capturing a smile may be a challenge. Since I’ve been photographing lots of families lately, I decided to pick out a few highlight images from each shoot and combine them all into one blog post. I have to say, fatherhood has deeply influenced the way I approach family portraiture. As a father I’ve come to understand the connection between parent and child, it is a connection that is difficult to describe in words but takes no effort to feel. When capturing images for my family clients, I aim to focus on this bond in order to let it come through in the images that I create. This bond, this connection, this love shared by family can come across in so many ways… in a smile, a look, a hug, all of which are represented here and there within the images you’ll find below.
