Since I’ve been photographing lots of families lately, I decided to pick out a few highlight images from each shoot and combine them all into one blog post. I have to say, fatherhood has deeply influenced the way I approach family portraiture. As a father I’ve come to understand the connection between parent and child, it is a connection that is difficult to describe in words but takes no effort to feel. When capturing images for my family clients, I aim to focus on this bond in order to let it come through in the images that I create. This bond, this connection, this love shared by family can come across in so many ways… in a smile, a look, a hug, all of which are represented here and there within the images you’ll find below. Briana & Dave’s Manhattan Beach Engagement Session

I have to be honest, I’ve totally slacked at blogging lately. I’m making a conscious effort to get back into the blogging thing with total regularity. With that said…. Meet Briana and Dave! World travelers, free spirits, creatives, the list goes on and on. Individually, Briana is the beautiful & well traveled surfer girl next door and Dave is quiet, confident and artistic. As I’ve mentioned above, these two have traveled the world together and boy can they tell you a story or two. If I can only achieve to travel half of what Briana and Dave have traveled, I can die a happy well traveled old dude! Traveling and surfing… among other things, are very important to both Briana & Dave. With this in mind we came up with a theme for their engagement shoot. First of all we absolutely had to feature their old school Volvo wagon in a few of our shots. The Volvo has been there since the beginning and has taken them from Surfing outings to mountain roads to off-roading in the high desert. The Volvo, has seen it all. Secondly we wanted to include their surfboards in the shoot. I think we accomplished both of those requirements. Briana & Dave will be married this New Year’s Eve and I’m honored to say that I’ll be there to photograph their wedding day as well. Hang ten folks.

Lauren’s Manhattan Beach Birthday Party

Occasionally I’m hired to photograph a birthday celebration. Much like weddings, a birthday party is a joyous celebration… one which I’m honored to capture in pictures. Lauren and a close knit group of friends and family recently got together and celebrated the night away. It was a night was filled with groovy music, subdued lighting, laughter and gourmet food professionally prepared by celebrity chef Stuart O’keeffe. Happy Bday Lauren!

Maddy’s Minneapolis Senior Portrait Session

Minnesota and it’s people are an amazing place and honestly, it’s becoming like a second home to me. So when the opportunity presented itself to shoot Maddy’s senior portrait session, I was all in. Maddy was totally comfortable in front of the camera and totally hammed it up, she was a blast!

Lexy’s Fitness Shoot

As the title describes, Lexy is a fitness model. We shot these images while inspired by images we’d both seen in the Athleta catalog. I actually receive this catalog at home and have often admired the look and feel of the photography. I love how these shots turned out!

Kanny & Ronal’s The Reef Long Beach Wedding

Kanny & Ronal are a super couple who had no trouble making sparks fly during our time together. Their intense connection clearly showed in every shot I took of them together. Kanny being from Cambodian descent made her grand entrance into her reception wearing a traditional cambodian wedding dress. their grand entrance was followed by a group of Cambodian weddding ceremony dancers whose dance routine made for awesome images. The bride & groom held their wedding ceremony and reception at The Reef in Long Beach.

Neitz Family – Manhattan Beach Family Photography

Meet the Neitz family. They are a super nice bunch of folks including two adorable and extremely energetic little ones. Despite the fact that it actually started drizzling during our shoot, we still had a great time capturing some very special and tender moments.

Lisa & Stephen’s Beverly Wilshire Wedding

Recently I had the pleasure of shooting as a 2nd photographer with a good friend of mine and talented fellow photographer, Brian Leahy of Brian Leahy Photography Studios. His Clients, Lisa & Stephen were married at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel which happens to be located directly at the intersection of Wilshire Blvd & Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. The Beverly Wilshire along with it’s fortunate location, made it easy for me to get creative as fantastic shooting locations and backgrounds were in no short supply. We even took the Bride, Groom and their entire bridal party for a stroll along Rodeo Drive! We all had a blast.

Lauren & Martin’s Middle Ranch Wedding

I recently shot Lauren & Martin’s wedding at Middle Ranch located in Lake View Terrace. It was my first time shooting at the ranch… and hopefully not the last. The ranch is situated in a small valley sorrounded by mountains and as a working ranch, there are many horses and their riders to be seen. Lauren and Martin along with their bridal party were an awesome group to work with. They were eager to laugh and have a good time… most of the time I’d just sit back and let them do their thing while I simply shot from a distance. Everyone had a great time at this wedding, myself included!
